BIO-SUSHY at Polymers 2024 MDPI Conference

The BIO-SUSHY project’s recent participation at the Polymers 2024 conference, which took place from May 28-31, 2024, in Athens, Greece, provided an excellent platform for showcasing innovative solutions in sustainable polymer applications. Project partners from AXIA Innovation and Wood K Plus presented two significant posters that highlighted the project’s advancements and strategic insights into addressing pressing environmental concerns such as PFAS.

The first poster, “Utilizing Bio-Based Coatings To Address PFAS Concerns – A Strategic Analysis Using PESTLE and SWOT Tools,” offers a comprehensive analysis of bio-based coatings. By employing PESTLE (Political, Economic, Social, Technological, Legal, and Environmental) and SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats) tools, this research provides strategic insights into the adoption and benefits of bio-based alternatives to traditional PFAS-containing materials.

The second poster, titled “Safe And Sustainable By Design (SSbD) Thermoplastic Powder Coatings To Address PFAS Concerns,” delves into developing thermoplastic powder coatings that prioritize safety and sustainability. This initiative is particularly relevant given the increasing scrutiny and regulatory measures surrounding per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), which are known for their persistence in the environment and potential health impacts.

The conference, focused on polymers, aligns perfectly with the objectives of the BIO-SUSHY project, which is also dedicated to developing sustainable, bio-based polymer solutions.

The 300+ attendees at the Polymers 2024 conference had the opportunity to engage with the project’s findings and discuss the broader implications for the polymer industry. The showcased posters highlighted the potential of sustainable polymer technologies to mitigate environmental impacts while meeting industry needs.
