Project's Objectives
Innovative Repellent Organic and Hybrid Coatings
The BIO-SUSHY project will develop innovative repellent organic and hybrid coatings to challenge widespread yet polluting per- and polyfluorinated alkyl substances (PFAS).
These coatings will be obtained from acknowledged processing technologies, bio-based thermoplastic powder, and hybrid sol-gel.
The coatings will be applied to various substrates for validation of applications at pre-industrial scale in different domains such as textile, glass cosmetic, and food packaging. However, their application can extend beyond these three case studies.
Safe and Sustainable by Design (SSbD) Strategy
BIO-SUSHY will develop a Safe and Sustainable by Design (SSbD) strategy, evaluating criteria that will encompass the risk toxicity of materials and hazardous leachate as well as life cycle assessment (LCA) to determine economic and environmental impacts along the value chains.
Impact maximization and Acceptance
The project will set up and implement a tailored dissemination and communication plan to broaden public diffusion of the project and nurture the stakeholder’s awareness of its results, define a feasible exploitation strategy for the project results, including IPR management and protection routes of generated foreground, and assess market opportunities and develop new business plans advancing the market uptake for the innovative generated coatings.
Additionally, BIO-SUSHY will develop new standards to facilitate market acceptance and will aim to optimize the outputs through a program of data harmonization and management.
