BIO-SUSHY Presented at European Coatings Conference 2025

The BIO-SUSHY project was presented at the European Coatings Conference – Understanding PFAS and Reformulating PFAS-free Coatings, held on 3–4 December 2025 in Cologne, Germany. Organised by European Coatings, the event brought together industry experts to discuss advances in PFAS alternatives, regulatory updates, and sustainable surface technologies.

At the event, Dr. Mireille Poelman, Project Coordinator and R&D Program Manager at MATERIA NOVA, delivered a keynote presentation on recent advances in PFAS-free coating development. Her talk highlighted BIO-SUSHY’s Safe and Sustainable by Design (SSbD) approach, showing how hybrid bio-based coatings achieve water- and oil-repellency without harmful per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances. She emphasized the need to integrate sustainability criteria early in formulation workflows to meet new industry and regulatory requirements for safer materials.

The conference offered BIO-SUSHY an opportunity to engage with industry leaders, researchers, and formulators advancing PFAS-free innovation. By sharing project insights with a specialized audience, BIO-SUSHY contributed to the discussion on sustainable, non-toxic coatings and reinforced its role in the transition to next-generation materials.
